HURLEY -- An Ironwood man was arrested in Hurley on a felony reckless endangerment count and two other charges after allegedly attempting to choke a woman on Nov. 22.
Steve Albert Allen, 30, of 224 Curry St., was arrested by Hurley police who responded to an afternoon complaint that Allen's girlfriend had been assaulted in a Division Street apartment.
The woman said Allen threw a candle at her and attempted to choke her. An officer noticed swelling and redness around the complainant's neck, according to a criminal complaint filed by Iron County District Attorney Marty Lipske.
When officers arrived at the scene, there was blood running down Allen's arms and he was holding a razor in his hand. According to the criminal complaint, Allen told officers he wanted to kill himself because his girlfriend was cheating on him and said he needed to go to the hospital in Marquette.
He denied trying to choke his companion, however.
Beacon Ambulance transported Allen to Grand View Hospital.
The victim filled out a domestic abuse victim work sheet that indicated she was sleeping on the couch when she was attacked.
Allen was later discharged from the hospital and incarcerated in the Iron County Jail at Hurley.
The second-degree reckless endangerment count carries a fine up to $25,000 and imprisonment up to 10 years.
Allen is also charged with misdemeanors for battery and disorderly conduct.
