Tuesday's electrical outage in Saxon, Gurney and parts of Ironwood was caused by a broken insulator on a transmission line, according to Xcel Energy spokesman Brian Elwood.
About 2,385 customers were affected by the afternoon blackout, although the length of outage differed in the communities. The electricity went out around 12:57 p.m. and power was restored by 3:13 p.m. in all areas, Elwood said Wednesday morning.
The power outage was similar to one of two weeks ago, although this one was longer.
For the second time in two weeks, Gogebic Community College classes were suspended, this time from about 1 to 4 p.m.
The black-out in Ironwood was again west of Greenbush Street.
An outage two weeks ago in Ironwood, Saxon and Mercer resulted from an equipment failure on a power line. About 7,052 customers and businesses were without electricity from 11:07 a.m. to 12:06 p.m. during the March 11 outage. A piece of equipment called a jumper failed. That caused the electrical load to switch to the other line, triggering the outage.
