MINOCQUA, Wis. -- The Hurley Midget baseball team began a busy week Monday with a 5-1 loss to Lakeland.
The T-birds scored two runs in the bottom of the second inning. Hurley got one run back in the top of the sixth inning to make it 2-1, but gave up three runs in the bottom of the sixth.
"It was a good, tight game. We just didn't get the key hits when we had chances to score," said Hurley manager Aaron Bender.
Both teams had seven hits.
Dylan Laurin took the loss, pitching the first four innings for Hurley. Brett Hockenbrock pitched the final two innings.
Hogland earned the victory for Lakeland.
Pitching will be key through a busy week for the 1-1 Midgets.
Hurley hosts Butternut-Glidden today at 4:30, and Bayfield on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. The Midgets travel to Northland Pines on Friday at 4:30 p.m., and host Park Falls on Saturday at 10 a.m.
Softball schedule
The Midgettes softball team will also host Butternut today at 4:30 and Northland Pines on Friday at 4:30 p.m.
"We've got quite a few make-up games up in the air right now," said softball manager Jim Kivisto Monday evening.
