HURLEY -- Butternut-Glidden scored five runs off two errors in the third inning in a 5-1 Indianhead Conference win over the Hurley Midgettes Tuesday.
"We had a couple of costly mistakes in that one inning," Hurley head coach Jim Kivisto said. "We gave them five outs for sure, but they deserve it. They played better than us tonight."
Hurley junior Hailey Manzanares was solid from the mound, pitching the complete game with six strikeouts. Manzanares gave up seven hits and had one walk.
B-G pitcher Devon Furtak was strong on the mound. Furtak struck out six, gave up six hits and walked two.
Manzanares led the Midgettes on offense going 2-for-3. She singled in the seventh inning, took second on a single by freshman Jeanna Aijala (1-for-3) and later scored on an error.
"I am very happy with my 7, 8 and 9 batters," Kivisto said. "Overall though, we need to hit the ball better. Some girls did get better."
Furtak led B-G going 2-for-4 with a two-RBI triple in the key third inning.
Hurley (3-3, 0-1) hosts non-conference Northland Pines on Friday at 4:30 p.m.
