Chermside named CEO of Aspirus Grand View; U.P. Regional Executive Team aligned

IRONWOOD — Aspirus Grand View Hospital has named Paula Chermside Chief Executive Officer. The announcement was made Thursday by Aspirus Upper Peninsula Regional Chief Executive Officer Chuck Nelson.

Chermside is a familiar face to the community and Aspirus, serving as Chief Operating Officer of Aspirus Grand View since 2013.

“Paula demonstrates continued excellence in her ability to lead our organization to the highest levels of health care quality and efficiency. She guided multiple programs of quality enhancement, expansion and development,” Nelson said. “Ultimately, Aspirus Grand View is much better today because of Paula.”

During her tenure as Chief Operating Officer, Chermside had overseen expansion and renovation of the emergency department; led design and current construction of an outpatient complex; led to designation of a Top 20 Critical Access Hospital in 2015 and 2016; implemented a state-of-the-art electronic health records system and brought a stabilizing force to the provider team, Nelson said.

“As Aspirus continues to grow and serve the communities of the Upper Peninsula, our collaboration across all four hospitals is vital,” Nelson said. “As a region, we’re sharing providers, resources, support staff, and we’re working together toward one common goal, to provide the very best care to the communities we serve.”

In her new CEO position, Chermside is part of a U.P. regional executive team working to enhance collaboration between AGV, Aspirus Ontonagon, Aspirus Keweenaw and Aspirus Iron River hospitals. Effective May 1, the new regional executive leadership roles are:

—Shane Jacques, former Aspirus Keweenaw Chief Financial Officer, is now Aspirus U.P. Regional CFO.

—Grace Tousignant, former Aspirus Keweenaw Chief Nursing Officer, is now Aspirus U.P. Regional CNO.

—Chad Rowe, former Aspirus Keweenaw Director of Human Resources, is now Aspirus U.P. Regional Director of Human Resources.

—Dave Olsson remains Aspirus U.P. Regional Marketing Director.

—Connie Koutouzos remains Aspirus Iron River Hospital Chief Executive Officer, and now joins the Aspirus U.P. Regional Executive Team.

The regional executive team reports directly to Nelson.

Nelson added, “Advancing collaboration as a region and leveraging our resources and strengths allows us to meet the unique needs of the Upper Peninsula. It allows us to work together to deliver the highest-quality care in the most efficient and cost-effective manner to patients close to home.”
