HURLEY - Junior James Sukanen made school history on a nostalgic night in Hurley. Sukanen became the eighth Hurley boy to score 1,000 career points as Hurley beat Butternut 62-24 Friday night. That came after Hurley honored the 1949 state champion boys basketball team. Sukanen led all scorers with 19 points and stands at 1,004 for his career. HURLEY - Hurley has a week off before the postseason starts, but Thursday night's game may have been good enough to keep the momentum going that long. After trailing much of the evening, Hurley capped off a whirlwind 21.6 seconds - and the regular season - with a 38-35 victory over Ashland. HANCOCK - The sequel didn't pack the same drama as the first meeting. Finlandia University defeated the Gogebic Community College Lady Samsons 66-49 Wednesday at Paavo Nurmi Center. BESSEMER - Bessemer held off Watersmeet's furious rally to beat the Nimrods for the first time since 2012 41-40 Tuesday night.
