    IRONWOOD — Tim Mesun played his third benefit for HOPE Animal Shelter at Theatre North Saturday evening. It was the 12th benefit he has played in his career. He was joined on stage by Matt Agee in a special performance by “La Fratelli Azzuri,” or “The Blues Brothers,” in English. “I really enjoy jazz and blues, and I am performing five new songs tonight,” Mesun said.     WAKEFIELD — Water levels of Sunday Lake fell 2 feet by Saturday, then another 2 to 3 inches by Sunday, said Scott Gronert of Kleiman Pump and Well Drilling of Iron Mountain. The company has been monitoring water levels around the clock after pumping water out of the lake for two days, said Gronert. M-28 was closed during the pumping.     EAST LANSING — A total of 32 Bessemer middle and high school students traveled to Michigan State University in East Lansing to compete in the 31st Michigan Science Olympiad on April 27. Regional competitions in February and March narrowed more than 400 high school and middle school students down to 96 teams.     IRONWOOD — After 20 years in business, Joe and Beverly Rohde are closing the Range Flour and Feed on May 24. The business has had a presence in Ironwood since 1921. When the Rohdes took over the business, they had five or six bags of grains and four fish tanks, and they built the business up on their own.     HURLEY — Havenwood Baptist Church sponsored a ‘Singspiration’ Sunday evening at the Hurley School auditorium, with Vic Eliason from VCY America. Eighty-eight people brought their voices to sing and share fellowship.     HURLEY — Little Finland hosted a traditional Laskiainen, or ‘sledding day,’ luncheon of pea soup and kropsu on Sunday.     BESSEMER — Flood season preparations are under way in Gogebic and Iron counties. According to Iron County Emergency Management Director Stacy Ofstad, roughly 10,000 sand bags have been purchased this year, with about 17,500 bags available in case of flooding emergencies.     WAKEFIELD — John Diddams of the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development spoke on invasive species Tuesday at the Wakefield Loggers Jamboree. Diddams said that one of the biggest issues in Gogebic County is giant hogweed, which is a hazard to humans.
