    BESSEMER—The normally scheduled Monday night Bessemer City Council meeting was moved to Thursday night this week. Gogebic County Sheriff Pete Matonich spoke to the council about approving his proposed 3-year police contract that included Wakefield. Bessemer and Wakefield have been sharing services with the sheriff’s department since 2007.     BESSEMER - It was a busy day Saturday for the Bessemer Women's Club as it hosted a vintage quilt show, tea party and fashion show. As part of the Smithsonian's "The Way We Worked" exhibit, the Bessemer Women's Club put together this event to highlight women's fashion and work in this area.     WAKEFIELD - Plans to move forward with the removal of two condemned buildings was announced Monday night at the Wakefield City Council meeting. The Laundromat along Sunday Lake Street and the property at 111 Bedell will be demolished and removed within the season and city manager Margot Anderson's goal is before the 4th of July. A custom in Finland, the sliding festival typically starts seven weeks before Lent and is filled with winter activities and food.     GILE, Wis. - Organizers of the Hurley 4th of July fireworks held their second annual fundraising Snowshoe Extravaganza Saturday afternoon on the Gile Flowage.     BESSEMER - Big Powderhorn Mountain Resort hosted the Midwest Cat Clowder all day Saturday. Vintage sno-cats and groomers were on display at the base of the hill.     HURLEY-It was the 22nd annual Frozen Chozen elementary basketball tournament this past weekend at the Hurley K-12 School. Local elementary basketball teams comprised of third, fourth, and fifth graders were invited to play in the tournament.
