    WAKEFIELD – The 36th annual Sunday Lake Run/Walk was held on Thursday with 261 runners and walkers participating under nearly perfect weather conditions on the scenic 2.8 mile course. For the runners, they simply run around the lake and Allan Peterson and Carolyn Andresen did it best. They were the top male and female runners overall.     BESSEMER – The Gogebic Rangers were on the comeback trail Monday night and took the first game of a doubleheader against the Ashland Lakers at Massie Field, but took a thumping by the bigger school in game two.     HURLEY –Tim Steiger of Bessemer and Scott Erickson of Hurley slogged through some very wet playing conditions on Sunday and shot a 139 total to win the Championship Flight in this weekend’s Battle of the Bluff golf tournament at the Eagle Bluff Golf Club. “It was really hard,” Steiger said. “The course was good, but the fairways were real wet.” Golfers said there were periods of hard rain during their rounds on the final day.     WAKEFIELD — The Bessemer boys and girls track teams swept the Porcupine Mountain Conference meet in Wakefield on Tuesday afternoon. The Speedgirls built up point total leads in the hurdle events, the 200 meter dash and the 3,200 meter run as they cruised to an 86-69 win over the Cardinals. Watersmeet was third with seven points.     BESSEMER — On the boys side, Wakefield-Marenisco won its first Marcy Bracket Invitational since 2002 and Ontonagon edged Bessemer 98 points to 95.5 in the girls division. Even though temperatures hovered in the low 40s, three new meet records were set.
