    IRONWOOD - Nearly 200 people participated in the annual Taste 'n Tour as part of Sisu Ski Fest Saturday in Ironwood. The event has been going on for five years, since the start of the ski fest, and according to Rick Semo, race committee member and volunteer coordinator, the event goes over very well. "I think it's been very popular," Semo said. "We have to limit it, because there is only so much food, but it works out perfect."   • Fans gather for annual USSA pro-series at Gogebic fairgrounds

    IRONWOOD - Fans from far and wide gathered in the grandstands at the Gogebic County Fairgrounds for the Pro-series U.S. Snowmobile Association races Saturday and Sunday. Among the crowd was Ron Fjerstad, father to one of the racers, Joey Fjerstad, 24, of Minneapolis. Joey Fjerstad has been racing since 2004, working his way up from stock class to championship class. Ron enjoys following his son to the races. Barb Reinhard, of Ironwood, came out to the races on Sunday. It wasn't her first time.... Full story

  • SISU snowshoe race a success

    WAKEFIELD – Twenty-nine people competed in the SISU snowshoe race at the Milje's Ski Trails Saturday morning. A 5k race and 10k race were available. "This has been an amazing event," said one of the trail owners, Carrie Miljevich, "We had a great turnout." Corey Stivve of Ashland heard about the race from a co-worker.   • Wisconsin officials trying to prevent overdose deaths

    EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (AP) - The state Department of Health Services is trying a one-year pilot program involving a narcotic antidote in an effort to prevent overdose deaths. The emergency medical technicians of 47 agencies statewide will be allowed to administer the narcotic antidote naloxone, widely known by the brand name Narcan, according to the Leader-Telegram.     IRONWOOD — In what was thought to be the most exciting race and finish in SISU Ski Fest history, Doug DeBold, of Wayzata, Minn., raced to a razor-thin win over Santiago Ocariz, of Moorhead, Minn., in the 42k Marathon-Men's Classic even though both finished in the same time of 2:24:06. The race was determined by a photo finish and it was lucky the camera had six sensors, because all were all needed to make the final call. "I had no idea who won," DeBold said.
