  • December jobless numbers rise in northern Wisconsin

Iron County remained with the second worst figures in the state, at 7.4 percent. That was worse than the 6.3 percent in November, according to the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development. A year ago, the Iron County jobless rate was 8.3 percent. Vilas County went up from 5 percent to 6 percent and neighboring Oneida County worsened from 4.3 percent to 5.2 percent....

    IRONWOOD, Mich. - Helen M. Kauppi, 98, of Ironwood, died on Thursday, Jan. 26, 2017, at Aspirus Ironwood Hospital. She was born May 19, 1918, in Bessemer, the daughter of the late John Reeta (Piri) Morris. She was a 1937 graduate of A.D. Johnston High School in Bessemer.
