  • Wakefield holds first reading of dog ordinance

    Wakefield — The city of Wakefield planning commission conducted the first reading of an amended dog ordinance that puts tighter restrictions on dog owners, but does not limit the number of animals residents can own, during a brief meeting on Tuesday night. The ordiance will be read again during the commissions next meeting on March 8. It can then be adopted and published in the newspaper. It will take affect 30 days after publication.     GILE, Wis. - Robert "Bob" Harland Olkonen, 70, of Gile passed away on Jan. 31, 2022, at home surrounded by his family. Bob was born on Oct. 10, 1951, in Kimball, the son of Henry and Corrine (Saari) Olkonen. He married June Wiikus on June 30, 1977. Bob worked at White Pine Copper Company for five years, and then he went to be a long-haul trucker for 23 years. He also owned and operated Olkie's Bar in Ironwood for 20 years.
