  • Ontonagon Hockey Association makes generous contribution to recreational building

    By JAN TUCKER [email protected] ONTONAGON — The Ontonagon-White Pine Rotary Wednesday presented the Ontonagon Hockey Association with a check for $1,000 to be used for a refurbishing project in the lobby of the Ontonagon Recreation Building. Hockey association president Stacey Somero and vice-chair Shannon Clinesmith accepted the check on behalf of the association, noting the recreation facility and ice rink is an important asset in Ontonagon.     ASHLAND, Wis. - James J. Vizanko, 94, of Ironwood Township, Mich., died on Monday, Dec. 14, 2015, in Ashland. He was born June 15, 1921, in Bessemer, Mich., the son of the late Steve and Veronica (Bailey) Vizanko. He attended Bessemer Schools, graduating with the class of 1939. He worked CCC Camps after high school and then joined the U.S. Army Air Force in 1942. Jim served in the European Theatre as a B-17 pilot and was awarded the Purple Heart Medal.
