    BAYFIELD, Wis. (AP) - The popular ice caves on Lake Superior near the Apostle Islands will soon be closed due to ice melt, officials said Wednesday. Access to the caves will close for the season no later than Sunday night, Apostle Islands National Lakeshore Superintendent Bob Krumenaker said in a statement. The season was "the longest and best one anyone can remember, and certainly the most popular," he said.   • Wisconsin town uses explosives on frozen creek

    LA CROSSE, Wis. (AP) - One Wisconsin town among the many dealing with frozen waterways and clogged drains because melted snow has no place to go has tried an explosive new approach: blowing up a creek. Town of Onalaska officials hired an Iowa-based blaster to stick several hundred sticks of plastic explosives in the frozen Sand Lake Coulee Creek and blow it up on Friday.     WAUSAU, Wis. - Thomas Emil Lauzon, 86, of Ironwood, Mich., passed away on Sunday, March 9, 2014, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital in Wausau. He was born in Ironwood on March 10, 1927, son of the late Joseph and Zella Lauzon. He attended Catholic schools in Ironwood and enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1945, serving in the Seabees in the South Pacific until the end of World War II.     FEEDING HILLS, Mass. — Alice L. (Suomi) Drzal, 81, died Friday, March 7, 2014. Alice was the wife of the late Stanley A. Drzal for 60 years. He predeceased her on Feb. 19, 2011. She was born in Bessemer, Mich., to the late Arne and Helia (Benson) Suomi. She graduated from A.D. Johnston High School in Bessemer in 1950.
