Employment numbers worsened in all western Upper Peninsula counties in January, according to the Michigan Labor Market Bureau. Gogebic County’s unemployment rate rose from 5.5 percent in December to 6.7 percent in January. The leap came despite 75 more people being employed in January. That was also balanced by 75 more unemployed persons, as well, as 100 more people entered the labor market. Total employment rose to 6,400 and unemployment has reached 450. KING, Wis. - Dennis L. "Blackie" Ramme, 66, a native of Ironwood, Mich., died Wednesday, March 16, 2016, at the Wisconsin Veterans Home in King, where he had resided for the past several years. He was born in Ironwood on July 19, 1949, son of the late Floyd and Marion (Chouinard) Ramme, and attended school in Bessemer, Mich. WAUSAU, Wis. - James Kenneth "Jarv" Jarvey, 64, of Ontonagon, Mich., formally of South Range, Mich., passed away at Aspirius Wausau Hospital on March 10, 2016, after a short illness. Kenny was born on March 7, 1952, in Hancock, Mich., the only son of the late Albert "Abbey" and Sylvia Jarvey, of South Range. Kenny attended school at Jeffers High School, graduating in 1970. TULSA, Okla. - John Hugh Heenan Jr., 51, died on Friday, March 11, 2016, at his home in Tulsa. He was born March 30, 1964, to John Hugh and Geraldine Lynne (Fibish) Heenan, of Oklahoma City. He moved with his family to Ironwood, Mich., in 1966. In 1981, the family moved to Clinton, where he graduated Clinton High School in 1982.
