Jakob Wayne Applekamp, 28, was sentenced to at least 40 months in prison for conspiracy to deliver meth. The charge carries a maximum sentence of 20 years. The first day of school will be Tuesday, Sept. 4, the day after Labor Day. The final day of classes will be Friday, June 7, 2019. IRONWOOD, Mich. - Ray Schmalz, 91, passed away peacefully on March 19, 2018, at Aspirus Ironwood Hospital from congestive heart failure with complications brought on by the flu. Ray was born on Aug. 27, 1926, to parents, Charles and Esther Schmalz, in Ironwood. He served his country as a corporal in the U.S. Army from 1945 to 1947, and was stationed in Japan for a large part of his service. IRONWOOD, Mich. - Clifford K. Dums, 76, of Ironwood, passed away on March 10, 2018. Clifford was born on May 3, 1942, in Wakefield, to William and Madeline (Aspinwall) Dums. He was a graduate of Wakefield High School and attended Gogebic Community College. He served his country honorably for 27 years as a member of the U.S. Army. IRONWOOD, Mich. - Mark A. Verrette, 57, of Ironwood, passed away Feb. 21, 2018. Mark was born March 28, 1960, in Wakefield and was raised in Bergland. He graduated from Bergland High School in 1978, and moved to Sheboygan, Wis., where he lived for about 30 years. Mark later moved back to Ironwood to assist his mother in 2008.
