WAKEFIELD — Regional Hospice’s seventh annual Polar Plunge saw an increase in plungers and donations this year at Saturday’s event in Wakefield. HURLEY — The Hurley Lions Club held an annual pancake breakfast Sunday at the Liberty Bell in support of the Hurley K-12 School’s participation in a summer youth camp program. BESSEMER — Many area children delighted in finding candy, quarters and prize tickets inside Easter eggs during an egg hunt in Bessemer Saturday. Kids and their parents from across the Gogebic Range attended the free event hosted by the Bessemer Chamber of Commerce at Washington Elementary School in Bessemer. Attendees lined up by age before entering the main floor to search for 1,424 eggs hidden in the hallways, stairwells and around the gymnasium and stage. WOODRUFF, Wis. — The active life of Charles “Chipper” Watts, 80, of Mercer, came to a peaceful end Friday, March 22, 2013, surrounded by his family at the Howard Young Medical Center in Woodruff. A celebration of life will be held from 1-3 p.m. at the Senior Center in Mercer today. Chipper was born on May 31, 1932, in Radisson, Wis., to Charles Searle Watts and Virginia Ray (Ayre) Watts.
