Pete “Niow-ga bwikwe” (Fourth Woman Standing,) 62, a resident of Watersmeet died Saturday, Jan. 10, 2015, at her home under the care of her family and Regional Hospice. She was born in Phelps, Wis. on May 7, 1952 to William and Marie (Biddell) DeVerney. Wanda married Robert Pete, Oct. 2, 1972, in Eagle River, Wis. She worked for the Lac Vieux Desert as a substance abuse counselor and for Families First. Wanda enjoyed playing bingo, cribbage and softball.     RAMSAY - The Bessemer Township board held it's first meeting of the year on Monday night to discuss the board of review, a grant advisory committee and fire department purchases. Recently, the township board sought individuals to fill an open position on the board of review and received three letters. Donald E. Ormes, P. Russell KinKaid and John R.   • Burchell wins two races at Blackjack

    Ironwood's Robert Burchell won the slalom and giant slalom at Monday's Theron Peterson Memorial high school ski event at Blackjack Ski Resort. Teammate Isaac Aukee took second in the slalom and Ironwood's Riley Jarocki was runner-up in the giant slalom. The Ski Devils' Rico Braucher was third in the GS.
