On Oct. 2, the commission already had proposed a series of fee hikes, and the Wakefield City Council voted on that recommendation at its Oct. 9 meeting.     ODANAH, Wis. — The Bad River Tribal Council has declared a public health emergency because of the heroin and opiate problem on the Bad River Reservation. The tribal council, on a 4-0 vote, last week declared the public health emergency to address the drug problem and is seeking outside assistance to address what id calls a “life-threatening issue.” Chairperson Robert Blanchard said the decision to designate a state of emergency is a positive step in the battle to address the growing problem of drug addiction. “Our communities need the resourc...

    IRONWOOD TOWNSHIP, Mich. - Renee' Diane Micheletti, 64, of Hurley, Wis., passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Monday, Nov. 6, 2017. She is now with her Lord and Savior and will be greatly missed and memories cherished. Renee' was born in Wakefield on July 15, 1953, daughter of the late Ferdinand and Ruth (Sahinoja) Micheletti.     IRONWOOD, Mich. - Howard Lloyd Niemi, 94, of Bessemer, died on Sunday, Nov. 5, 2017, at Aspirus Ironwood Hospital in Ironwood. He was born May 26, 1923, in Ironwood, the son of the late Einard and Anna (Hill) Niemi. Howard graduated from A.D. Johnston High School in Bessemer in 1942. He served in the U.S. Army for the duration of World War II, assigned to the China-Burma-India battles and campaign.
