IRONWOOD — The Ironwood Area School Board of Education discussed adjusting policies for the school district Monday. The board reviewed and discussed seven NEOLA of Michigan policies relating to a variety of topics, with six being approved. WAKEFIELD, Mich. — Vivian M. Coleman, of Bessemer, died Sunday, April 14, 2013, in Wakefield. She was born in Ironwood, daughter of the William N. and Amanda (Utter) Coleman. Some years later the family moved to Bessemer. Vivian graduated from the A.D. Johnston High School in Bessemer. BELLEVILLE, Mich. — Michael A. Karjala, 60, passed away Friday, April 19, 2013, at Arbor Hospice Residence following a battle with A.L.S., of which he never complained. He was born Nov. 23, 1952, the son of Arthur and Katherine (Benetti) Karjala in Ironwood. He was a 1971 graduate of St. Ambrose Catholic High School in Ironwood. MARQUETTE, Mich. — Eddie R. Raisanen, 93, of 1902 Summit St., Marquette, entered eternal life on April 12, 2013. Ed was born in Wakefield to Isaac and Matilda (Lusa) Raisanen on Sept. 19, 1919. Following his graduation from Wakefield Senior High School, he worked with the Civilian Conservation Corps and the Sunday Lake Mine until joining the Michigan State Police in 1942.
