Fishing may be a 12-months-a-year sport in Michigan, but there's little doubt that the last Saturday of April is one of the biggest days of the year for anglers. BESSEMER—The normally scheduled Monday night Bessemer City Council meeting was moved to Thursday night this week. Gogebic County Sheriff Pete Matonich spoke to the council about approving his proposed 3-year police contract that included Wakefield. Bessemer and Wakefield have been sharing services with the sheriff’s department since 2007. The new contract is essentially the same as the current contract with a slight increase in cost per year, per city. Matonich said he kept costs as low as he possibly could. DRUMMOND, Wis. - The Bessemer boys and Wakefield-Marenisco girls finished runner-up in Thursday's Indianhead Conference track-and-field meet. Luckily, the meet was scheduled outside of the snowbelt. It was sunny and relatively warm with no snow on the ground here, compared to snow-covered fields around the Gogebic Range.
