    MADISON, Wis. - Shirley Ann Peterson passed away on Aug. 8, 2017, at Saint Mary's Care Center in Madison. She was born on July 21, 1935, in Ironwood, Mich., the daughter of Catherine (Viher) and Dominic Longhini. She attended Newport School and graduated from Luther L. Wright High School in 1953. Over the years, she also lived in Denver, Long Island, N.Y., Wausau and Madison. Family and faith brought great joy to Shirley.     MISSION VIEJO, Calif. — Gunnar Maxim Osterberg was born on March 10, 1932, in Ironwood, Mich. He passed away on Aug. 10, 2017, in Mission Viejo. At the young age of 16 years, his parents moved Gunnar to California. They settled in the city of Burbank where Gunnar finished high school, graduating in 1950. He worked in the aerospace industry until he was drafted into the U.S. Army infantry at age 20 to serve in the Korean War.   • Dredging re-opens Oman's Creek

    LITTLE GIRL'S POINT - Dredging once again took place this week at Little Girl's Point as workers attempt to keep Oman's Creek open and unblocked by sediment. The Department of Natural Resources has contracted with Gogebic County to perform the dredging operations, according to Jeff Gaertner, DNR park manager for the Porcupine Mountains State Park and Lake Gogebic area.     HURLEY — It appears Iron County will have to wait to implement its latest broadband internet project after the county failed to be awarded a state grant in the latest round of funding. Last week, the Wisconsin Public Service Commission awarded $1.5 million in grants to 13 of the 53 applications it received.
