The bill to establish the Committee of Michigan’s Mining Future passed the House 107-1 on May 16. “My bill to create a committee on Michigan’s mining future had near-unanimous support on the House floor. The hearing is a request by PM Power and the White Pine Refinery for a $490,000 loan from the Community Development Block Grant program. IRONWOOD, Mich. — Madeline Rose “Maddie” Jackson, 15, of Ironwood, died early Saturday morning, May 18, 2019, as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Madeline was born on July 9, 2003, at Grand View Hospital in Ironwood, a daughter of Tonya Mata and Dave Jackson Jr. Maddie was a sophomore student at A.D. Johnston High School in Bessemer. WHITE PINE, Mich. — Rita Marie (Skoviak) Saari, 71, of White Pine, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by family on Monday, May 20, 2019, to the arms of her Heavenly Father. She defeated pancreatic cancer by fighting two years longer than doctors expected. Rita was born Sept. 8, 1947, to John and Pauline (Chopp) Skoviak in Ontonagon.
