The bats and pitching were there, but Chequamegon took advantage of six Midgette errors to win a WIAA Division 3 regional title with an exciting 6-5 win over young Hurley Tuesday.     HURLEY — Students at the Hurley K-12 School shared hands-on environmental science concepts on last week. Members of Diane O’Krongly’s eighth grade environmental science class passed on their knowledge to fourth grade students in Monica Kolpin’s and Rhonda Olkonen’s classes.     BESSEMER — On the boys side, Wakefield-Marenisco won its first Marcy Bracket Invitational since 2002 and Ontonagon edged Bessemer 98 points to 95.5 in the girls division. Even though temperatures hovered in the low 40s, three new meet records were set.     IRONWOOD, Mich. — Patricia Lynn “Patty” Hannu, 48, of Ironwood, died peacefully Wednesday, May 22, 2013, at home, surrounded by her loving family, following a courageous, 19-year battle with cancer. The former Patty Moren was born Oct. 9, 1964, in Ironwood, the daughter of Gerald and Joyce (Carli) Moren. She attended Newport Grade School and graduated from Luther L. Wright High School in 1982.     HURLEY, Wis. — Sylvia S. Pelkola, 98, of Hurley, died peacefully on Tuesday, May 21, 2013, at Villa Maria Health and Rehabilitation Center in Hurley, following a brief illness. Sylvia was born Jan. 27, 1915, in Ironwood, Mich., daughter of the late Stephen and Marie (Jokela) Aho. The family moved to Saxon in 1921.     GWINN, Mich. — Shirley I. Hedstrom, 77, of Gwinn, died Saturday morning, May 18, 2013, at the Mather Nursing Center in Ishpeming. She was born Aug. 16, 1935, in Gwinn, a daughter of the late William and Ina (Pelkola) Ontto. Shirley was a 1952 Gwinn High School graduate. On June 2, 1956, she married Edmund G. Hedstrom in Gwinn.
