BESSEMER — Gogebic County Prosecutor Richard Adams has authorized charges against the five people who were arrested early Tuesday morning for meth-making in two busts. A house was raided at 525 Florence St. in Ironwood, followed by a second search of a residence on River Street in Ramsay. Both busts were conducted by the Gogebic-Iron Area Narcotics Team, with the cooperation of other area law enforcement officers and the Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team. IRONWOOD — The first day of spring resulted in more snow and cold temperatures on the Gogebic Range Wednesday as March continued to be a bear of a month. A total of 4.5 inches of snow was recorded at the National Weather Service weather station off Cloverland Drive for the 24-hour period to 7 a.m. Wednesday, resulting in an accumulation for the past two days of 13 inches. WATERSMEET, Mich. — Gordon “Pete” Hilsabeck, of Watersmeet, passed away Tuesday, March 19, 2013, at the age of 84. He was born on Aug. 23, 1928, in Peoria, Ill., the son of Raymond and Nada (Kerfot) Hilsabeck. Pete served in the U.S. Air Force as a staff sergeant for 20 years, and was honorably discharged in 1961. IRONWOOD, Mich. — Helen Sendra, 90, of Mercer, Wis., died Tuesday, March 19, 2013, at Aspirus Grand View Hospital in Ironwood. She was born Sept. 4, 1922, in Lipin, Poland, daughter of the late Michael and Sophia (Skouba) Pietkiewicz, and came to Chicago in 1949, where she worked at Pullman Coach Co. for 10 years.
