    UPSON, Wis. — Gogebic Taconite broke ground Wednesday to begin drilling core samples at the proposed iron ore mine near Upson after crews were obstructed by protesters the day before. Protesters earlier placed large rocks, trees and other obstructions in the roadway to block crews from entering the drill sites. (AP) — A wildfire fueled by hot temperatures, gusty winds and thick, bone-dry forests has destroyed 92 homes, damaged five more and prompted more than 7,000 residents northeast of Colorado Springs to flee, sheriff’s official said Wednesday.   • Barbecue Cook-off for Life raises more than $6,000

    ONTONAGON — The seventh annual Barbecue Cook-off for Life, held Saturday, generated $6,074 for the Ontonagon County Cancer Association. This raises the total amount raised by the event to nearly $40,000. All the funds raised are used to assist Ontonagon County cancer patient with medical expanses.     IRONWOOD, Mich. — Clement C. Kolesar, 93, 37 Newport Heights S., Ironwood, died peacefully Tuesday, June 4, 2013, at Aspirus Grand View Hospital in Ironwood. Clem was the 11th child born in Ironwood to John and Mary (Dravecky) Kolesar on Sept. 15, 1919. Coming from a family of 17 children, he entered the work force at an early age with the death of his father on June 24, 1935.
