  • Iron County kids enjoy 4-H summer camp

    MANITOWISH WATERS - A group of Iron County kids spent the week exploring nature at the North Lakeland Discovery Center during the 15th annual Iron County 4-H summer camp. The camp ran from Tuesday to Friday, July 7-10, and was open to third through fifth graders, according to Neil Klemme, the youth development agent with the University of Wisconsin's Iron County Extension Office, who runs the camp.   • Hurley council takes action allowing beauty salon to open

    HURLEY — The Hurley City Council agreed to add one-chair beauty salons to its conditional use ordinance on Tuesday. Mayor Joe Pinardi said a woman on Maple Street plans on opening a one-chair salon in her house, but the ordinance didn’t cover it. Adding beauty salons to the list will allow her to receive a permit to operate the business. In other action Tuesday, the council approved Jake Hodgdon as a part-time police officer, to be used as needed by Police Chief Dan Erspamer.     BESSEMER, Mich. - Robert J. Delich, 83, of Bessemer, formerly of Wakefield, passed away peacefully late Tuesday evening, July 14, 2015. Robert was born on Aug. 12, 1931, in Wakefield, a son of Michael and Jennifer (Vukobradovich) Delich. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War.     HURLEY, Wis. - Juan "Johnny" Ponce, of South Carey, completed his earthly journey on Tuesday, July 14, 2015, in his home. Juan was born on Jan. 16, 1931, in the small village of Arecibo on the island of Puerto Rico. At the age of 19, Juan left his home and family to begin a new life in Waukegan, Ill., working and eventually getting the rest of his family with him.
