    IRONWOOD - The Ironwood Area Schools Board of Education heard the city and IAS were awarded the Safe Routes to School Grant of $386,614 at its meeting Monday evening. The grant is intended to cover renovation costs regarding school routes, i.e. sidewalks and administrative costs. It will be used to replace the Curry Street and Lake Street sidewalks and also to build three spur trails plus a school path to connect LLW with the Gateway Trail and nearby neighborhoods.     PANAMA CITY, Fla. - Jonis John Braghini passed away peacefully on Friday, July 18, 2014, at Covenant Hospice Bay Medical after a courageous battle with cancer. John was born Dec. 5, 1930, in Bessemer, Mich. At 17, John joined the U.S. Air Force and honorably served his country. After leaving the Air Force, he joined IBM in Boca Raton, where he was part of the team that developed the first personal computer.     DULUTH, Minn. - William Farnham "Bill" Penrose, 90, of Ironwood, Mich., died Saturday, July 19, 2014, at Essentia Health-St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth. He was born May 6, 1924, in Ironwood, son of the late Norman and Winifred (Trethewey) Penrose. He was married to his wife of 68 years, the former Gertrude Nelmark, on March 2, 1946. She survives.
