By TOM LAVENTURE tlaventure@yourdailyglobe.com IRONWOOD TOWNSHIP — The Gogebic-Iron County Airport will need to close for a few days to wrap up the summer runway project, according to reports at the airport board meeting Monday. The airport will close again from Thursday to Aug. 20 to allow workers to paint permanent lines and to cut 2-inch drainage gaps across the surface of the runway, said Michael Harma, airport manager. The commission 5-0 approved the Ironwood Comprehensive Plan and Planning Commission report and review. Approval is required by the Redevelopment Ready Communities Program of the Michigan Economic Development Corporation. EWEN, Mich. — Rachel E. Besonen, 88, of Ewen, passed away on Sunday, Aug. 9, 2020, while spending the summer in her beloved home in Ewen. Rachel was born Dec. 8, 1931, in Tilden Township to John and Hilma (Honkala) Juntila. She married Robert Besonen of Trout Creek in National Mine on Oct. 17, 1953. Rachel was a graduate of National Mine High School class of 1949. Rachel earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Northern Michigan University in 1961.
