  • Routheaux takes over Ironwood girls basketball team

    The Routheaux family will continue its tradition of producing head basketball coaches. Deke Routheaux was the head coach at Gogebic Community College for many years and his son, Tim, was hired Monday night by the Ironwood Board of Education as the new varsity girls’ basketball coach after Noel Aho stepped aside after four years.     MERCER, Wis. - U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Oshkosh, toured Action Floor Systems in Mercer Wednesday, the proposed iron mine site near Upson and visited the Hurley K-12 School.   • Drive-in theater raises money for Hurley's 2015 Last Blast

    HURLEY - Dozens of people attended a drive-in theater style fundraising event at the Hurley K-12 School Wednesday evening held by the 2015 Last Blast Committee. Hurley students graduating in 2015 and their parents hosted the event to raise money for the class' Last Blast party, which is held annually at the end of each academic year for the seniors and chaperoned by the junior class' parents.     WAUSAU, Wis. - June E. Popko, 88, of Mercer, Wis., died Monday, Aug. 18, 2014, in Wausau. June was born June 5, 1926, in Endlee, S.D. June retired from Simpson Electric in Mercer after 30 years.     SPRINGSTEAD, Wis. - Mary Ann Kramer, 79, of Springstead was called by the Lord to eternal life on Monday, Aug. 18, 2014. Mary Ann was born on March 25, 1935 in Park Falls, Wis., the daughter of Alois and Delia (nee Boyer) Fenzl. She attended St. Anthony's School and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1953.
