    IRONWOOD - Girls and boys dressed in their finest clothes for the sixth annual Fancy Nancy Tea Party on Thursday afternoon, hosted by the Ironwood Carnegie Library. For the "year's biggest event," more than 20 children attended the party at the Ironwood Memorial Building. During the party, assistant library director Lynne Wiercinski told the children a story about Nancy, a young girl who loves everything fancy.     LAKE GOGEBIC, Mich. - Bernadette Elizabeth (Rundell) Carlson, 84, a longtime resident of Lake Gogebic, passed away peacefully Wednesday evening, Aug. 19, 2015, at her home, surrounded by her loving family. Bernadette was born on Nov. 21, 1930, in Ironwood, the daughter of Frank and Elizabeth (Vida) Rundell. She attended Luther L. Wright High School and graduated in 1949. On Oct. 7, 1950, Bernadette married the love of her life, Donald Lloyd Carlson, at Salem Lutheran Church in Ironwood.... Full story

    WAKEFIELD, Mich. — Viola Mae Brassaw, 100, of Bessemer, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2015, at Gogebic Medical Care Facility in Wakefield. Viola was born May 24, 1915, in Bessemer, the daughter of John and Minnie (Rundle) Oberst. She graduated from Mellen High School in 1932. In 1936, she married Wally Johnson. He preceded her in death. In 1957, Viola married Chester Brassaw; he also preceded her in death. She was employed at Hunters Inn and Sail Inn.   • Solid waste board looks for further meetings with Bessemer

    IRONWOOD — The Gogebic Range Solid Waste Management Authority board decided Thursday to make another effort to meet with the city of Bessemer to reach a resolution to the city’s exit from the authority. The decision came after Bessemer representatives were unable to make Thursday’s meeting and, according to documents provided at the meeting, requested a meeting some time in September.
