  • Hitchcock recovering from surgery at hospital Reed

    HURLEY - Daniel Hitchcock, of Hurley, is recovering well after going through surgery on his left lung as a result of pneumonia last week. Hitchcock, a 3-4 specialist, has been serving in Afghanistan with the 829th Engineering Battalion of the U.S. Army as a National Guard Reservist since June. He recently became ill with pneumonia and his left lung filled with fluid and the lining of the lung became infected.     MERRIWEATHER — Ardis D. Niemi, 79, of Merriweather, passed away peacefully at her home on Aug. 20, 2014. She was born May 20, 1937, daughter of the late Sherman and Evelina Pendock. On April 15, 1971, she married Daniel M. Niemi. He survives, along with an extended family. Funeral services for Ardis will be held Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2014, at 11 a.m. at the Cane Funeral Home Bruce Crossing Chapel. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. Jay Nixon on Thursday ordered the Missouri National Guard to begin withdrawing from Ferguson, where nightly scenes of unrest have erupted since a white police officer fatally shot an unarmed black 18-year-old nearly two weeks ago.
