HURLEY — The Hurley Area Chamber of Commerce raised around $3,000 for the Hurley Fire Department’s All-Terrain Vehicle-Snowmobile Rescue Unit at Saturday’s Festival Italiano. The chamber proclaimed the event a big success, with crowds packing the downtown area. The money was raised with the 50-50 ticket sales. EWEN, Mich. — Norman Walter Sormula, 79, of Ewen, passed away Saturday, Sept. 2, 2017, at his home with Mabel by his side. He was born Feb. 19, 1938, in Ewen, to Walter and Mamie (Anderson) Sormula. Norman attended Ewen High School and later worked in construction for 30 years in Kenosha, Wis. After years apart, he was reunited with his partner in life, Mabel Niemi. IRON MOUNTAIN, Mich. — Gerald D. Kimball, 75, of Ironwood, died on Thursday, Aug. 31, 2017, in the loving care of his daughter, Geri Lynn Dabb, in Iron Mountain. He was born July 7, 1942, in Ironwood, the son of the late Benjamin and Gladys (Kennedy) Kimball. On Nov. 15, 1968, he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Patricia A.
