  • Longer games in Wisconsin may favor deeper teams

    For one year at least, quarters are out in high school basketball games in Wisconsin. The Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association board voted Thursday to change varsity games from four eight-minute quarters to two 18-minute halves for a one-year trial. JV teams will play two 16-minute halves. The move is expected to help deeper teams because games will be four minutes longer. Games should also have more flow with teams not able to stall for a last-second shot as often. Colleges, clubs and Minnesota high schools already play with halves.... Full story

  • HIT Idol winners to perform at Summerfest

    BESSEMER - The seven winners of last fall's HIT Idol have been invited to perform with American Idol contestant Naima Adedapo at Summerfest in Milwaukee on July 4. According to HIT Idol producer Janie Williams, HIT Idol is a talent show loosely based on the popular TV Show "American Idol." Adedapo, 30, who grew up in Milwaukee, finished in the top 11 of the 10th season of American Idol in 2011. She was the headline act at the fourth annual HIT Idol in November.     BESSEMER - A small crowd gathered at the pocket park on Sophie Street in downtown Bessemer Friday for the sixth annual Tree of Honor tree lighting ceremony that kicks off the city's 4th of July celebration.     KIMBALL, Wis. - Richard Louis "Dick" Dalpiaz, 63, of Kimball, died Wednesday, June 24, 2015, at home. He was born April 1, 1952, in Ironwood, Mich., son of the late Joseph Eugene and Patricia Betty (Loo) Dalpiaz, and attended Ironwood schools and Luther L. Wright High School.
