In fact, Kevin Crupi, of the National Weather Service office in Marquette, said the first eight months of 2014 were the second coldest on record in Ironwood, dating to 1901. IRON RIVER, Mich. - Howard "Jim" J. Madson, 87, of Watersmeet, passed away Sunday, Sept. 21, 2014, at Northstar Health System in Iron River. He was born Oct. 17, 1926, in Merrill, Wis., the son of the late Carl and Catherine (Hansen) Madson. He was a U.S. Army veteran. Jim married the former Sylvia Scheu on April 12, 1947, in Merrill. HURLEY, Wis. - Idele "Didi" Marguerite (Rahn) Hannula, 81, of Hurley, passed away peacefully on Sept. 9, 2014, at Villa Maria Health and Rehab Center in Hurley. Idele was born in Newberry, Mich., on March 25, 1933, the only child of Lyal Rahn and Geraldine (Morris) Rahn and was named after her grandmother, Idele Morris, so her mother nicknamed her Didi. NEGAUNEE, Mich. — Lorraine Metsala, 86, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday morning Sept. 21, 2014, at the Eastwood Nursing Center in Negaunee with her daughters by her side. She was born on Jan. 9, 1928, in Iron River to Arthur and Mary (Moilanen) Eliasson. After graduation, Lorraine worked in Chicago before settling into her real passion of being a wife, mother and homemaker which she lovingly did for the rest of her life.
