"Jake" Kasper, 55, of Gurney, died peacefully Wednesday morning, Sept. 14, 2016, in his home, surrounded by his loving family, following a courageous, 14-month battle with lung cancer. IRONWOOD — Lila J. Bantz, age 89, of Ironwood died Saturday, Sept. 24, 2016, in Ironwood. She was born Feb. 28, 1927 in Ironwood, daughter of the late Nante and Lillian (Kinnunen) Holappa. Lila attended Ironwood schools, graduating from Luther L. Wright High School with the class of 1945. Her husband, Jerome Bantz, preceded her in death on April 14, 1985. Business Manager Tammy Gibson reported taxpayers will see a lower than projected millage rate on their winter taxes with the lower than anticipated interest rate on the bonds sold to finance the building project.
