    IRONWOOD - Ironwood lost its final home game of the season 8-0 to Phillips Tuesday. It was the last home game for seniors Robert Burchell, Noah Terzano and Matt Dary. "I thought we played well in the first half," Ironwood coach Don Cvengros said. "We were only down by three in the first half. The kids are getting a little better."   • Supervisors focus on economic growth for Iron County

    HURLEY - Economic development was the main topic during Tuesday's Iron County Board of Supervisors meeting. On Thursday, members of the board are invited to attend a workshop sponsored by the Iron County Economic Development Corporation.     IRONWOOD - High school students at Luther L. Wright School in Ironwood did their best chef impressions during the Homecoming Week cook-off competition on Tuesday night. Teacher Cheryl Jacisin organized the event, giving students instructions on what items they would be preparing for three judges.   • GCC one of three in state with enrollment increase

    IRONWOOD - Gogebic Community College's Board of Trustees at its meeting Tuesday heard the college's enrollment has grown by about 2 percent from last year to 1,122, one of only three community colleges in Michigan to experience the upward trend. The college also saw an increase in credits taken this year, said Miranda Lawver, assistant registrar and institutional researcher at GCC.     GAITHERSBURG, Md. — Dorothy Ann (Kivisto) Treado passed away on Sept. 2, 2014, at her home in Gaithersburg. Dorothy was born in Ironwood, Mich., on Jan. 9, 1926, to the late Esther (Mattila) Kivisto and Axel Kivisto. She attended public schools in Ironwood, graduating from Luther L. Wright High School in 1944. During these years, she was a ballet dancer and very active in the local 4-H program, winning several awards for her dress making ability.     WATERSMEET, Mich. - Michael "Mike" Albert Hazen passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by family and close friends on the evening of Sept. 28, 2014, after a hard-fought battle with cancer. Mike was born on April 17, 1946, in Watersmeet, to Margaret and Chester "Jack" Hazen.     IRONWOOD, Mich. - James M. Frederickson, 64, of Ironwood, died Monday, Sept. 29, 2014, at home, following a five-year battle with cancer. He was born June 5, 1950, in Manistique, son of the late Marvin and Violet (Feldt) Frederickson, and graduated from Manistique High School in 1969. He then attended Central Michigan University in Mt.
