    HURLEY — With college entrance interviews and future careers just around the corner, the Hurley School District is helping to prepare students for the future. On May 15, students participated in an interview process to become teachers’ assistants for the 2013-’14 school year.     Ironwood native and Luther L. Wright High School graduate Rachel Cattelan McDonald will appear on TNT’s new competition series “The Hero” with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, as one of nine contestants. The show premieres June 6 at 7 p.m. CDT. Cattelan McDonald is a single mom to her 11-year-old son, Alijah, who is hearing impaired. He’s a straight-A student, and he tap dances and plays guitar.   • Ironwood bank teller celebrates 20 years with company

    IRONWOOD — Twenty years and hundreds of customers later, Corrine Alexandroni can still be found behind the counter at Wells Fargo. Alexandroni celebrated her 20th anniversary with the company as a teller on Friday.     ATASCADERO, Calif. — Felicia Sophia Bailey, 98, formerly of Bergland, Mich., passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, May 25, 2013, in Atascadero. She was born Dec. 13, 1914, in Passaic, N.J.     Thanks to all the local veterans and their various organizations that helped mark Memorial Day in so many ways on Monday. The services conducted in many area cemeteries and at local memorials were a honorable tribute to those soldiers who served to protect our freedoms. There were parades, bands, singing, speeches and all sorts military honors offered in many hollowed spots around the Gogebic Range.     NORWAY — What an up-and-down Friday for the Ironwood softball team. The Red Devils started the day with a 3-2 win over Ishpeming in a thrilling MHSAA Division 4 district semifinal. Kaitlyn Tollstam crushed a walk-off hit to score Dani McCullough in the bottom of the seventh, after Ishpeming had just tied the game.
