    Several Ironwood track-and-field athletes competed in the Division 2 U.P. Track-and-Field Finals on Saturday in Kingsford. A number of good performances were turned in and the Red Devil boy's team finished fifth with 50 points, while the Ironwood girl's team was seventh with 31 points. Both Ishpeming teams took home the gold and won by wide margins. Ironwood coach Ted Sim was pleased with how both teams performed.     IRONWOOD - After eight weeks of events throughout the region, the closing ceremony for the Smithsonian's "The Way We Worked" exhibit was held Sunday at the historic Ironwood Theatre. The event began with a musical prelude on the theatre's historic Barton organ followed by a brief welcome from Ironwood Mayor Kim Corcoran and master of ceremonies Mark Silver, a past president of the theatre board.   • Group helps clean up Montreal River

    IRONWOOD—A group met Saturday morning at the Michigan Welcome Center to help clean up the banks alongside the Montreal River. Led by the Forest Service Department, the group met first to discuss safety procedures, protective equipment and the areas that would be cleaned up, which consisted of five zones. Garbage and recycling collection was done just on public land alongside the river and not actually in the water.     IRONWOOD, Mich.- Willard D. “Bill” Leinon, 84, of Montreal, Wis., died unexpectedly Friday, May 29, 2015, at Aspirus Grand View Hospital in Ironwood, surrounded by his loving family. He was born April 4, 1931, in Montreal, son of the late Henry and Cecilia (Baron) Leinon, and attended grade school there. He then began a lifelong logging career with his father and brothers, Roland and Raymond, and spent 20 years with his son Richard at W & R Leinon Forest Products, retiring at the age of 72 in 2003.
