On Thursday at noon, Hurley hosted the Great Lakes Great Apple Crunch, providing an apple to every student in the school.     IRONWOOD - The success of the First Friday efforts in Ironwood continued with the Plaidurday celebration. The Friday downtown promotion included a 6 p.m. drone photo by Kevin Schneller in which about 150 people wore plaid.     HURLEY — The city of Hurley received a favorable 2016 audit report at its regular monthly meeting on Tuesday. A representative of the Wipfli company presented an overview of the audit, saying the city received an unmodified, or “clean” opinion. There were no concerns in the water-sewer budget. A few of the departments went over their budgets for the year, however. In other business, the council adopted an ordinance on housing and property maintenance.     SPOKANE, Wash. - Eino Raymond Matiska, 87, of Bessemer, Mich., passed away in Spokane on Oct. 10, 2017. Eino was born Sept. 1, 1930, to Albin and Helmi Matiska, in Ironwood, Mich. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1950 to 1954, and worked as an electrician at White Pine Copper Mine for 35 years.
