    IRONWOOD — In the Indianhead Conference second-place crossover volleyball game, Washburn needed five sets to edge Ironwood 25-19, 27-25, 16-25, 24-26 and 15-11. Both teams had finished second in their division, Ironwood in the East and Washburn in the West.     HURLEY — Just two days before an even bigger stage, Ironwood came away with both individual titles and were a tiebreaker away from the girls team crown at Thursday’s Indianhead Conference Championships. Ironwood’s Jared Joki pulled ahead of Drummond’s Steven Carlson on the final loop behind the Hurley K-12 School and Ironwood’s Jessica Gering won the girls race.   • Hurley American Legion ends lease with Memorial Building

    HURLEY — The Hurley American Legion voted to terminate its lease with Iron County for the Iron County Memorial Building Wednesday evening. According to Legion member Bob Traczyk, most members were in favor of terminating the lease and voted as such. The Legion pays $1 per year to the county for the building, but with a decline in bowling, the Legion has had trouble making enough revenue to pay utility bills.     EWEN, Mich. — Arlyss Gloria Danielson Waters, 89, of Ewen, died peacefully on Oct. 13, 2013, in the company of family and friends. Born July 4, 1924, in Chicago, Arlyss earned her degree in nursing from Presbyterian-St. Luke’s hospital in Chicago, where she worked as a nurse. She married Charles Waters in 1952 and together they embarked on a life lived in the beauty of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.     MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — Eileen Little, 90, of Hoyt Lakes, died Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2013, at her daughter and son-in-law’s home in Minneapolis. Eileen was born in Ironwood, Mich., in the upstairs bedroom of her mother and father’s home on Nov. 12, 1922. She graduated from Luther L. Wright High School and attended Gogebic Community College.     MARSHFIELD, Wis. — David D. Janov, 63, of Manitowish Waters and formerly of Hurley, died Monday, Oct. 14, 2013, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield. He was born Nov. 1, 1949, in Ironwood, Mich., son of the late Charles and Anna (Lukasiewicz) Janov, attended Hurley schools and graduated from J.E. Murphy High School in 1967.     BESSEMER — The Gogebic County Election Commission Thursday approved language for a ballot on whether Bill McDonald should be recalled from the Bessemer School Board.
