After more than a week of rain and snow, the sunshine across the Gogebic Range Monday and Tuesday was a welcome relief, although brief. Although the thermometer dropped to 20 degrees overnight Monday, on Tuesday morning it turned sunny and the temperature had rebounded to 36 by noon. IRONWOOD - Area skaters will get to try out the new ice at the Patrick O'Donnell Civic Center on Friday. New ice-making equipment has been installed and center manager Brian Roehm said Monday the system seems to be working fine. Roehm said the project was completed with the help of a handful of volunteers. Also, he said the community corrections department assisted by assigning people to serve community service sentences by working at the center. Open skating hours will be 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.... IRONWOOD -The Gogebic Range Health Foundation will hold its third annual community auction fundraiser Saturday at the Ironwood Memorial Building. Doors open at 5 p.m. for the event, "A Tisket, a Tasket, a Table and a Basket." PRESQUE ISLE, Wis. - The Presque Isle Community Library will showcase the northwoods-themed photographs of Linda Christensen during November. ONTONAGON, Mich. - Burton Johnson, 83, of Bruce Crossing, died on Sunday, Oct. 27, 2013, at Long-Term Care in Ontonagon. Burton was born Dec. 21, 1929, in Laurium, the son of Ralph and Aleda Johnson. The family moved to Bruce Crossing in 1943. On Dec. 6, 1947, he married the love of his life, Betty Niemi.
