    HURLEY - Students at the Hurley K-12 School are participating in Red Ribbon Week, a nationwide drug prevention event. The event focuses on students learning to say no to drugs, but students in Hurley have also expanded the event to include anti-bullying and alcohol prevention education. Red Ribbon Week was inspired by the death of undercover Drug Enforcement Administration agent Enrique Camarena by Mexican drug traffickers in 1985.   • Charges added in Montreal fatal drunk driving crash

    HURLEY — A 17-year-old Hurley resident who faces a count of homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle has entered not guilty pleas to misdemeanor charges related to the traffic death. Paige Rene Grayson, 17, of 210 Copper St., was the driver in a Sept. 14 single-vehicle accident in the city of Montreal that resulted in the death of Trevor Mylly, 17, of Ironwood.     MINOCQUA, Wis. — Ruth Marie Carlson died peacefully on Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2013, in Minocqua, encircled by family, at 95 years old. She had been a resident of both Grace Lodge Assisted Living in Rhinelander and Avanti Health and Rehabilitation Center in Minocqua. Ruth was born on Jan. 21, 1918, in McKeesport, Penn., to George and Myrtle Taylor; she survived her sister Beatrice and brother Kenneth.   • Holiday festival raises funds for Mercer students

    MERCER, Wis. - The Mercer Parent Teacher Student Association offered tricks and treats for Halloween revelers Saturday with its annual Loonacy Fest held at the Mercer School. Students worked to transform the school into a "Halloween extravaganza," a news release said. Each class was responsible for a game room, with proceeds raised going to class treasuries.
