LITTLE GIRL'S POINT - Lake Road near Upper Powers Road is closed to traffic as the Maki Creek culvert replacement project has begun. It is the last of 10 culvert replacement projects throughout the county and by far the most extensive, and expensive. BESSEMER - On a cold, mid-October morning, biology students in Bessemer conducted their annual forestry day and watershed assessment at Powdermill Creek in Bessemer. This year brought high water and cool temperatures, according to biology teacher Dave Rowe. HURLEY - Students at the Hurley K-12 School got into the Halloween spirit Friday. Halloween capped off "Red Ribbon Week" at the school, highlighting anti-drinking, anti-bullying and anti-drugs. Students dressed up throughout the week in different themes to show their support of being drug- and alcohol-free and to stop bullying.
