Voters backed levying the one mill over a three-year period by a 4,010 to 2,473 margin. Talaska received 3,948 votes, while Gogebic County Chief Assistant Prosecutor Tracie Wittla received 2,080 votes. The two faced off in the non-partisan race Tuesday after advancing as the top two vote-getters in the August primary. BESSEMER - Voters in the city of Bessemer on Tuesday approved three proposals by the city council, including two amendments to the city charter. Proposal 1 amended the city charter, altering the time one must be a resident in order to serve as a city elected official to one year instead of two. This passed 558-247 (69 percent). RACINE, Wis. - Richard "Red" Johnson, 76, passed away peacefully at Season's Hospice in Waukesha on Sunday, Oct. 28, 2018. Red was born on June 26, 1942, in Ironwood, Mich., to the late Walter and Louise (nee: LaForge) Johnson. He graduated from St. Ambrose High School in 1960.
