IRONWOOD - Volunteers are gearing up for the ninth annual Santa's Headquarters. Since 2006, a committee of local residents volunteers to help provide gifts for area children during Christmas. This year's event takes place Dec. 10, with a gift distribution from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Ironwood Memorial Building. IRONWOOD, Mich. - Roy A. Ilminen, 93, of Kimball, Wis., passed away Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2014, at Aspirus Grand View Hospital in Ironwood. He was born Aug. 24, 1921, in Kimball Township, to his parents, August and Aino (Hori) Ilminen, and graduated from Hurley High School, Hurley, Wis., in 1941. He played in a band, The Blue Jackets, until joining the U.S Army Air Corps on June 20, 1944, serving as a radar mechanic during World War II, and was honorably discharged as a corporal on Dec. 5, 1945....
HURLEY, Wis. - David J. O'Leary, 70, of Hurley, died unexpectedly Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2014, in his home. Dave was born May 19, 1944, in Ironwood, Mich., son of the late James and Ellen (Hill) O'Leary, attended Hurley schools, and graduated from J.E. Murphy High School in 1962. He enlisted in the U.S. Army on Jan. 21, 1963, serving stateside during the Vietnam Era, and was honorably discharged on Dec. 30, 1965.
