HURLEY - A 53-year-old former Oma, Wis,, man was freed from a 42-year prison sentence Monday in Iron County Court. Donald Miller, who had been sentenced on a first-degree sexual assault with a dangerous weapon count in 1998, had that charge amended to a third-degree sexual assault charge, which carries a nine-year sentence. HURLEY - Students in Melanie Erspamer's third grade class mixed and mingled with some furry friends at the Hurley K-12 School Monday. Students decided against exchanging Christmas gifts with each other, and instead opted for bringing in gifts to a local charity. WAKEFIELD - The Wakefield-Marenisco School Board discussed the proposed consolidation of the Bessemer and Wakefield-Marenisco school districts at its meeting Monday. A group of citizens has proposed a consolidation and is collecting signatures to put the issue on a ballot. Superintendent Cathy Shamion said the group has until mid-January to collect enough signatures for the vote to occur in May 2014. ONTONAGON, Mich. - Edward Floyd Greeno, 90, of Ewen, died on Saturday, Dec. 14, 2013, at Long Term Care in Ontonagon. Ed was born Oct. 1, 1923, in Ewen, the son of Floyd and Bernice (Taylor) Greeno. He attended Ewen High School but left early to join the United States Army during World War II. He served from 1943-1946.
