MERCER, Wis. - U.S. Rep. Sean Duffy, R-Wausau, listened to concerns from Action Floors of Mercer, Bessemer Plywood and others in the wood products industry Friday morning in Mercer. IRONWOOD — The Ironwood City Commission will consider a $150,000 Christmas gift at Monday’s meeting. Mark and Denise Stephens, of Bessemer, would like to donate common stock to the city with an approximate value of $150,000 to be used for an electric ice and edging machine for the Patrick O’Donnell Civic Center rink. The city owns the center, which is on the campus of Gogebic Comminuty College. The donation must be acted on by Dec. 31. High school Spanish students held the annual La Festival de Navidad at the Hurley K-12 School Friday, mixing Spanish customs with the holiday season. MERCER, Wis. - Shawn Charles Spencer, 24, of 4309 N. Old Highway 51, Mercer, died in a fire that destroyed his home on Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2013. He was born Feb. 25, 1989, in Woodruff, the son of Charlie Spencer and Karen (Brunell) Benck. He attended Mercer schools and graduated from high school in the Baldwin-Woodville School District in 2007. TAMPA, Fla. - Gerald W. Minkin, 91, of New Port Richey, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 15, 2013, in Tampa. Gerald was born in Ironwood, Mich., the son of the late Alex and Mayme (Berlin) Minkin. Gerald proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II in the Pacific theater. WAKEFIELD, Mich. — Elaine Ila Shauger, 88, a longtime resident of Wakefield, passed away Thursday morning, Dec. 19, 2013, in the company of her children. She was born on Feb. 18, 1925, in Marshfield, Wis., daughter of the late Joseph and Ida (Taube) Parsons. Elaine was united in marriage to Reino Hill. He passed away on April 30, 1952, at the age of 34. On Aug. 15, 1953, she married Daniel L. Shauger. He preceded her in death on Dec. 3, 2004. He was born April 20, 1933, in Ironwood, Mich., the son of the late Richard and Mabel (Goodwin) Buddle, living in Hurley, Wis., and Waukegan for many years before moving to Orange City, Fla., and settling in Lake Villa in 2004.
