    WAKEFIELD - The Wakefield-Marenisco girls track and field team put on a strong performance and out-distanced the Bessemer Speedgirls 102-78 in the final Porcupine Mountain Conference track meet at Cardinal Field in Wakefield.     IRONWOOD — For the 18th time, area runners will run in the memory of John Jarvi Jr. as the Ironwood cross country team hosts its annual fundraiser in downtown Ironwood on Saturday. Jarvi, who was an avid runner and supporter of the community, passed away in 1996 after battling brain cancer, explained cross country coach Benjamin Schmandt. “(Jarvi) was very dedicated to the community,” Schmandt said, “He was an avid (supporter) of the sport of running ... very inspirational member of the community.” The event will feature a 10K and a 5K walk/r...

    MERCER, Wis. - Esther Mallum, 95, of Mercer, passed away Tuesday, May 19, 2015, surrounded by her family, and loved ones. She was born June 8, 1919, in the town of Franzen, Marathon County, Wis., daughter of the late Michael and Julia Cebula. She married Harold Mallum on Nov. 30, 1940, at St. Jospeph's Catholic Church in Galloway, Wis., where they owned a farm. Later they moved to Mercer. Harold preceded her in death in 1977.
