It is the seventh year for the snowshoe walks and while Sam Davey said they used to have 100-plus come out for each walk, they now average somewhere between 40 to 100, however the weather is a mitigating factor in attendance, as real cold nights tend to have limited participation. After a week of sub-zero temperatures across the Gogebic Range, a winter weather advisory was in effect for Iron County, Wis., and the Ironwood area through Sunday. IRONWOOD, Mich. - Hugh Parmelee Drury, 87, of Ironwood, died Dec.17, 2017, quietly in his home, surrounded by loved ones. Hugh was born in Iron Mountain on Oct.19, 1930. He graduated from John D. Pierce High School in Marquette. He attended college in Utah and graduated from Michigan State University with a Bachelor of Science in forestry. WAKEFIELD, Mich. - Veronica B. Skolasinski, 99, a long-time resident of Wakefield, passed away peacefully Friday morning, Dec. 29, 2017. Veronica was born on Dec. 20, 1918, in Ironwood, a daughter of John and Mary (Sentko) Vronch. She attended schools in Ironwood and graduated from Luther L. Wright High School. KETCHIKAN, Alaska - David Allan Ahonen, 72, of Ketchikan and Hurley, Wis., died Dec. 27, 2017, in Ketchikan, of complications from pneumonia. He was born Aug. 17, 1945, in Duluth, Minn., to Gustaf A. and Jennie F. Ahonen. He spent his childhood in Hurley, specifically in Kimball, Wis. David served in the U.S. Air Force as an M.P., worked as a prison guard in Wisconsin and was a cook on Great Lakes ore boats.
